Association between residential greenness and general health among older adults in rural and urban areas in China

While it is widely recognized that exposure to residential greenness beneficial older adults’ health and wellbeing, surprisingly few studies have examined whether the health-promoting effect of varies between urban rural populations in China, a rapidly urbanizing country. In addition, most previous on greenness-health associations China used data collected particular city instead entire country, resulting insufficient statistical power inadequate generalizability. This study assessed relationship amount surrounding at township-level self-rated general individual-level among adults across country using geo-referenced micro-data sample 2010 population census multilevel logistic models. Results indicated Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was positively associated with all people, NDVI-health association stronger high-density areas relative low-density areas. Furthermore, for participants who were younger, higher-educated, non-agricultural hukou holders. Our findings provide evidence support China’s recent endeavour promote an eco-friendly greener development strategy.
